History of Decatur Village
Decatur Township and the Village of Decatur got their names from a famous American hero. This hero was Stephen Decatur Jr.. He was a naval officer known for his bravery during the War of 1812.
The village of Decatur was first started in 1847. It officially became a village in 1861.
