What Lives in Deep Lake?

The lake is home to many different kinds of fish. You can find stocked rainbow trout here. This means people add these fish to the lake for fishing. The lake also has fish that reproduce naturally. These include largemouth bass, bluegill, yellow perch, and pumpkinseed.

How Did Deep Lake Get Its Name?

Deep Lake has had a few different names over the years. When white settlers first surveyed the land in 1855, they called it Deep Lake. Later, in the late 1800s, some people called it CoKaine Lake. This might have been an early name from Native American tribes.

For a while, the lake was also known as Drake Lake. This name came from the Lyman Darrow Drake family. They settled on the south side of the lake in 1872. The name Drake Lake was still used often until the late 1920s. Maps from that time, even up to 1929, show it as Drake Lake. The Drake family sold their property in 1908.
