Deep Stream is a river in Otago, New Zealand. It flows into the Taieri River. A "tributary" is a smaller river or stream that flows into a larger one.
About Deep Stream
Deep Stream starts high up in the Lammerlaw Range. This is a mountain area in Otago. The river flows generally towards the east. It travels for about 70 kilometres (43 miles).
The stream ends when it joins the Taieri River. This meeting point is near a place called Hindon. This area is part of the Taieri Gorge.
Railway History
A long time ago, there was a railway station near Deep Stream. It was located where Deep Stream meets the Taieri River. This station was also called Deep Stream. It was part of the Otago Central Railway line.
Today, parts of this railway line are still used. Dunedin Railways uses it for scenic trips. However, the Deep Stream station closed in 1954. It is no longer there.
Fun Facts
Deep Stream was once a popular spot for fishing. People enjoyed catching trout there. They often used grasshoppers as bait.
