Degrassi facts for kids
Degrassi is a popular Canadian TV show series that has been around for a long time, with over 621 episodes! It tells stories about the lives of teenagers who live in or near De Grassi Street in Toronto, Ontario. The show explores their friendships, challenges, and growing-up experiences.
There have been five main Degrassi series over the years: The Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High, Degrassi: The Next Generation and Degrassi: Next Class. Each series follows new groups of students, but they all share the same spirit of showing what it's like to be a teenager.

The Beginning of Degrassi
The very first Degrassi shows were made by a small company called Playing With Time Inc., owned by Kit Hood and Linda Schuyler. They wanted to create a show that felt real and showed what teenagers actually go through.
Degrassi on TV
Later versions of Degrassi, like Degrassi: The Next Generation, were produced by Epitome Pictures. These shows aired in Canada on channels like MTV Canada and VRAK.TV (which showed a dubbed French version). In the United States, the show was broadcast on TeenNick. Degrassi: The Next Generation's eighth season even aired in the United Kingdom on BBC Switch.
Degrassi: Next Class
The most recent series, Degrassi: Next Class, was made by Netflix and Epitome (which is now part of DHX Media). This show started airing in January 2016. You could watch it on Netflix around the world and on Family (F2N) in Canada.
Famous Faces from Degrassi
Many actors started their careers on Degrassi. One very famous example is Drake, who is now a global music superstar. He acted in Degrassi: The Next Generation before becoming a famous rapper and singer.
