The Kids of Degrassi Street is a Canadian TV show that first aired from 1979 to 1986. It's the very first series in the popular Degrassi family of shows! This series follows the everyday lives of a group of kids who live on Degrassi Street in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The show started out as four short movies. These movies were called Ida Makes a Movie, Cookie Goes to the Hospital, Irene Moves In, and Noel Buys a Suit. They were shown as special after-school programs on CBC Television between 1979 and 1982. People really loved The Kids of Degrassi Street because it showed real-life challenges and experiences that kids go through. Many Canadians still remember it fondly today!
Meet the Cast of Degrassi Street
Many of the young actors from The Kids of Degrassi Street later appeared in other Degrassi shows. These included Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High. Some of these actors were Stacie Mistysyn, Neil Hope, Anais Granofsky, Sarah Charlesworth, and John Ioannou.
It's important to know that even though the same actors appeared, their character names and families were different in each show. So, The Kids of Degrassi Street is like a first step in the Degrassi world, but it's not a direct story leading into the later series.
