Delano is a ghost town located in the northeastern part of Elko County, Nevada. It is about 36 miles (58 km) north of a town called Montello. A ghost town is a place where most or all people have left, often because the main reason for the town's existence disappeared.

Delano was once a busy center for gold mining. People mined gold there from the 1870s all the way until the 1960s. The town was named after a local trapper. Over time, as the mining slowed down, people started to leave. The post office in Delano closed in 1927, which was a big sign that the town was shrinking.

Sadly, any remaining buildings in Delano were destroyed by a large wildfire in the 1990s. Today, only old foundations and other archaeological remains can be found at the site. These remains are like clues that tell us about the people who once lived and worked there.

Geography of Delano

Delano is located at a high elevation. It sits at about 6,401 feet (1,951 meters) above sea level. This high location is typical for many mining towns in Nevada, which are often found in mountainous areas where valuable minerals are located.
