About Dellview: A Unique Town
Dellview is located in an area where water flows into the Muddy Fork. This stream eventually joins Buffalo Creek, which then flows into the Broad River in South Carolina.
This tiny town is quite unusual. It doesn't collect any taxes from its residents. It also doesn't ask for money from the state government. Dellview doesn't have its own police department. It also doesn't have a public water or sewer system. Since it's inactive, there are no local elections or elected officials. Gaston County now handles most of the town's affairs.
The only paved road in Dellview is Dellview Road. This road forms the northern edge of the town. Just north of Dellview is the town of Cherryville.

The Story of Dellview: Its History
Dellview became an official town in 1925. This happened because of a specific problem and a clever solution.
Why Dellview Became a Town
Back then, a law in Gaston County said that people couldn't shoot stray dogs that came onto their land. This law was a big problem for two families named Dellinger. They were poultry farmers, meaning they raised chickens. Stray dogs were often raiding their chicken coops, causing trouble for their farms, which were next to each other.
To fix this, the Dellinger families asked their relative, David R. Dellinger, for help. David was a state representative in North Carolina. They asked him to suggest a new law to the General Assembly. This law would make their farms into a new town. They decided to call it "Dellview." The name "Dellview" comes from "Dellinger" (clipped) combined with "view."
The bill passed, and Dellview officially became a town in 1925. Right away, the new town leaders passed a local rule, called an ordinance. This rule allowed citizens to shoot any stray dog that came onto their property. This solved the problem for the Dellinger farmers.
When Dellview Became Inactive
In 1978, no one from Dellview responded to a survey about mapping the town. Because of this, the town was declared "inactive." This meant that the governing rights went back to Gaston County.
However, in 1980, a citizen asked for the decision to be changed, and it was. But then, for the Census 2000, Dellview was declared inactive again. For many years, Dellview was known as the smallest official town in North Carolina.
