Journey Through the Train Depot

The Train Depot used to be a busy train station for the Union Pacific railroad. Today, it's filled with exhibits that tell important stories. You can learn about the American Civil War in Helena, including the big Battle of Helena in 1863.

The exhibits also show what life was like during the war. You can learn about the Union Army's time in the area. During the Civil War, the backyard of this house was a place of intense fighting. Soldiers fought hand-to-hand during the Battle of Helena. It's a powerful reminder of the history that happened right here.
