What Does Dendropsophus stingi Look Like?

Male Dendropsophus stingi frogs are quite small. They measure about 21.7 to 24.3 millimeters (which is less than an inch) from their snout to their rear end. The only female frog studied was a bit bigger, measuring about 26.2 millimeters.

These frogs have a strong body and a head that is fairly wide. Their snout, which is their nose area, is usually rounded. However, in the female frog, it was longer and pointed when looked at from above. The frog's ear drum, called the tympanum, is easy to see.

Their fingers have wide, flat tips, which help them grip surfaces. They also have some webbing between their fingers. Their toes are about three-quarters webbed, which is great for swimming. The frog's skin is smooth everywhere except for its belly.

The back of the frog and its head are usually light to dark brown. You might see a dark spot between its eyes. There are also two dark, V-shaped stripes on its back that have black edges. The hidden parts of its legs are light yellowish-brown. Its belly is a pale yellow-cream color.

Where Does Dendropsophus stingi Live and How Is It Protected?

Dendropsophus stingi frogs like to live in wet places. You can find them in pastures that are flooded, in marshes, and in temporary pools of water. These areas are usually found at an elevation of about 2,000 meters (about 6,560 feet) above sea level.

Scientists have not found any major dangers that threaten this frog species right now. It is common in the places where it lives. However, the area where these frogs are known to live is quite small. This means they could be at risk from sudden, unexpected events like big changes in weather or habitat loss. Protecting their small living areas is important for their future.
