How the Team Was Chosen

In late 2017, a change happened in how Denmark chose its Paralympic team. The job moved from Parasport Denmark to the National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark (DIF). This decision was made to make Olympic and Paralympic sports more equal.

Niels Christiansen, who works for Parasport Denmark, was happy about the change. He said it sends an important message. He hoped it would lead to more success for Denmark in the Paralympics. Even with this change, Parasport Denmark still helped prepare the team for the Winter Games.

Denmark's Paralympic History

Denmark first competed in the Winter Paralympics in 1980. This was in Geilo, Norway. Before the 2018 games, Denmark had won a total of six medals. They had two gold medals, one silver medal, and three bronze medals.

All of Denmark's gold and bronze medals were won by Anne-Mette Bredahl. She was a para-Nordic skier who was blind. Her gold medals were in a biathlon race. Denmark last won a medal at the Winter Paralympics in 1994.

Denmark usually sends only a few athletes to the Winter Paralympics. For example, they sent six athletes in 2006. In both 2010 and 2014, they sent only two athletes.
