Denton is a small village in England. It is located in the borough of Darlington. This area is part of County Durham. In 2011, fewer than 100 people lived here. Denton is found north-west of Darlington. It sits between Walworth and Summerhouse. Houghton-Le-Side is to its north, and Piercebridge is to its south.
The village has about 18 homes, both new and old. These houses surround Denton Hall Farm. The entire village is part of the large Raby Estate. Many of the farm buildings here are painted white. There's a fun local story about why this is.

The White Building Legend
One common legend says that Lord Barnard, who owned the estate, got lost in a thick fog. He found a farmhouse and thought it was one of his own. He demanded a place to stay. But then he found out it was privately owned! To make sure this never happened again, he ordered all his buildings to be painted white. This way, he would always know which ones belonged to him.
Life at Denton Hall Farm
Denton Hall Farm is a busy place. It's a mixed farm, meaning they grow crops (arable) and raise animals (livestock). Horse racing and training are also a big part of village life. You might see horses being trained here.
Exploring Denton's Church History
Denton is believed to have had several chapels over many years. Each old chapel eventually fell into disrepair. So, a new one had to be built in its place.
Past Chapels and Discoveries
The very first chapel might have been built in the Norman style. This was a type of architecture popular long ago. Later, an Early English style building replaced it. This second chapel was completely rebuilt in 1810. During this rebuilding, workers found an old stone coffin. People thought it might have belonged to a Knight Templar. These were famous medieval knights.
Later, a stone cover for a coffin was also found. It was made of Frosterley Marble. This cover had a carved figure of a woman on it. Around the edge, there was an old French inscription. It said: "Hic gist Aubrey de Coynners sa compayn." This means: "Here lies the wife of Aubrey de Conyers."
The Current Chapel
The chapel you see today is a neat stone building. It is also in the Early English style. It has a main area called a nave and a chancel. There is also a south porch at the west end. The inside of the chancel has beautiful oak fittings and a pulpit. This chapel was built almost exactly where the old one stood. It can seat about 100 people. It cost about £1400 to build.
