The Deputy Prime Minister of Croatia is a very important person in the Croatian government. Their official title is the Vice President of the Government of the Republic of Croatia. Think of them as a top helper to the Prime Minister of Croatia.
Croatia's main rulebook, the Constitution of Croatia, says that the government (called the cabinet) includes the Prime Minister, one or more Deputy Prime Ministers, and other ministers. A cabinet is like a team of leaders who help run the country. If different political parties work together to form the government (this is called a coalition), the smaller parties often get to have one of their members become a Deputy Prime Minister. This helps make sure all parts of the government are working together.
A Deputy Prime Minister can also be in charge of a specific government department, like the Minister of Finance or the Minister of Interior. Sometimes, they serve just as a Deputy Prime Minister without leading a department.
It's important to know that if the Prime Minister can't do their job anymore, the Deputy Prime Minister does not automatically become the new Prime Minister. However, if the Prime Minister is temporarily unable to lead meetings, a Deputy Prime Minister can step in and lead those meetings instead.
