Derio is a small town and a municipality (which is like a local government area) in northern Spain. It is located in the Biscay province, which is part of the Basque Country.
Derio is very close to Bilbao, a much larger city. In fact, Derio used to be part of Bilbao until 1983. Today, it is part of an area called Greater Bilbao. The town is home to Bilbao's largest municipal cemetery. In 2018, about 6,545 people lived in Derio.
