Derrick Jonathon Dial, born on December 20, 1975, is a former professional basketball player from America. He played basketball for many years, including four seasons in the famous National Basketball Association (NBA). Derrick also played professionally in other countries, like in the Greek Basket League, the Italian A League, and the Spanish ACB League.

Derrick Dial went to Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan. While there, he played competitive high school basketball.
College Career Highlights
Derrick went to Eastern Michigan University and played college basketball for the Eastern Michigan Eagles. He played with them from 1994 to 1998.
Winning Championships in College
During his time at Eastern Michigan, Derrick helped his team win the Mid-American Conference Tournament twice. They won in 1996 and again in 1998. Each time, he was named to the All-Tournament Team, which means he was one of the best players in the tournament. He was also chosen for the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team in both the 1996–97 and 1997–98 seasons.
Hall of Fame Recognition
Because of his great achievements, Derrick was honored by being added to the Eastern Michigan Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.
Derrick's Professional Basketball Career
After finishing college, Derrick Dial was chosen in the 1998 NBA draft. The San Antonio Spurs picked him as the 52nd player overall in the second round.
Playing in Different Leagues
Derrick started his professional career playing in the Greek Basket League for Peristeri Athens during the 1998–99 season. After that, he joined the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, playing from 1999 to 2001.
He then moved to the New Jersey Nets for the 2001–02 season. In the same season, he also played for the Toronto Raptors in the NBA.
Playing Overseas and Back to the NBA
In the 2002–03 season, Derrick played in Italy for the Italian A League club Virtus Bologna. With this team, he also got to play in the EuroLeague, which is a big basketball competition in Europe.
Derrick returned to the NBA for the 2003–04 season, playing with the Orlando Magic. Later, in the 2005–06 season, he played in Spain for Valencia in the Spanish ACB League. He then played for the Greek club Olympiada Patras in the 2006–07 season.
NBA Development League
On November 7, 2008, Derrick was chosen by the Tulsa 66ers in the NBA D-League Draft. He played the 2008–09 season in the D-League with the 66ers.
