Desmond Lamont "Desi" Relaford, born on September 16, 1973, is an American who used to play professional baseball. He was an infielder, which means he played positions like second base or shortstop. Today, he is the manager for a baseball team called the Danville Otterbots. Desi played for several teams in Major League Baseball, including the Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Colorado Rockies, and Texas Rangers.

Desi Relaford's Baseball Career

Desi Relaford played professional baseball for 11 years. He was known for being very good at defense. This means he was excellent at catching the ball and making plays. He could play almost every position on the baseball field. The only positions he did not play were first base and catcher.

Playing for the New York Mets

One interesting moment in his career happened when he played for the New York Mets. In one game, he even pitched! He threw a perfect inning, which means no one on the other team got on base. He also got a strikeout and threw the ball very fast, over 90 miles per hour.

Moving Between Teams

Desi Relaford was traded a couple of times during his career. In 2001 and 2002, he was traded from the Mets to the San Francisco Giants. Later, he was traded again to the Seattle Mariners.

Time with the Texas Rangers

In 2007, Desi signed a deal to play for the Texas Rangers. He started the season playing in the minor leagues. However, in July, he was called up to the Rangers' main team. This happened because their regular second baseman, Ian Kinsler, was injured. Desi played for the Rangers until the end of that season. After 2007, he did not play professional baseball anymore.

Becoming a Manager

On March 23, 2021, Desi Relaford started a new part of his baseball career. He became the manager for the Danville Otterbots. This team is part of the new Appalachian League. As a manager, he helps guide the team and makes important decisions during games.
