Dewell Lerome Brewer (born May 22, 1970) is a former American football player. He played as a running back and return specialist. He was part of the Indianapolis Colts in the National Football League (NFL). Before that, he played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Early Life and High School Success
Dewell Brewer was born on May 22, 1970, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He grew up there and played high school football at Lawton High School. He was a very talented player.
Dewell was named the The Oklahoman's Offensive Player of the Year. He earned this award twice, during both his junior and senior years. He also helped his high school team win the state championship in 1987.
College Football Career
Dewell Brewer played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners. He was a key player for four seasons, from 1989 to 1992.
During his time at Oklahoma, he ran for many yards. He also returned kicks and punts. In 1990, he had a great year, rushing for 872 yards and scoring eight touchdowns.
Playing in the NFL
After college, Dewell Brewer joined the Chicago Bears in 1993. He later signed with the Indianapolis Colts in 1994.
For the Colts, he played in all 16 games during the 1994 season. He was a special teams star, returning 42 punts for 339 yards. He even scored one touchdown on a punt return! He also returned 18 kicks for 358 yards. His 42 punt returns were the most in the entire NFL that year.
In 1995, Dewell was chosen by the Carolina Panthers in a special draft for new teams. He was injured that season and did not play. He later became a free agent.
Coaching After Playing
After his playing career, Dewell Brewer returned to his old high school. He became an assistant football coach at Lawton High School. He also coached track and field there.
