The Dexter Cabin is a special old building in Leadville, Colorado. It used to be the home and hunting lodge of a man named James V. Dexter. He was a very successful businessman who invested a lot in mining. Even though it's called a "cabin," people have said the inside is surprisingly fancy and beautifully decorated!
Today, Dexter Cabin is a Colorado State Historic Site. This means it's an important place protected by the state of Colorado because of its history. It's now a museum that you can visit. The state's history organization, History Colorado, takes care of it.
The cabin is located right next to another historic building called Healy House. Both of these buildings are part of the Leadville Historic District. This whole district is a very important area, recognized as a National Historic Landmark because of its history. The Dexter Cabin was actually moved to its current spot next to Healy House so they could be together.
The Dexter Cabin was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. This is a list of places across the United States that are important to the country's history.
