Dexter Devon Reid Jr. (born March 18, 1981) is a former professional football player. He played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). The New England Patriots chose him in the 2004 NFL draft. He played college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Dexter Reid is a two-time Super Bowl champion. He won Super Bowls with the Patriots in 2005 and the Indianapolis Colts in 2007.

Early Life and High School Sports
Dexter Reid grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. He went to Granby High School. There, he was a star athlete in football, track, and basketball.
In football, he was named "Player of the Year" for his district. He was also a first-team all-state player in his senior year. He made 62 tackles and had 3 interceptions. He also blocked 5 field goals. As a quarterback, he gained 1,400 total yards. During his high school career, he passed for 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also rushed for 960 yards and 12 touchdowns.
In track, he won the state championship in the triple jump. He was also a two-time all-district player in basketball.
College Football Career
After high school, Dexter Reid played college football at the University of North Carolina. He was a "redshirt" in 1999, meaning he practiced but didn't play in games.
In 2000, he played mostly on special teams. He had 69 tackles and recovered a fumble. He also had one interception and 6 pass deflections.
For the 2001 season, he started all 13 games. He finished third on the team with 99 tackles. He also had 2 sacks and 2 interceptions. One of his interceptions was returned for a touchdown.
In 2002, as a junior, he started every game at free safety. He was named first-team All-ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference). He was second in the nation with 13.8 tackles per game. He made 166 tackles that season. This was close to the school record. He also set a school record for tackles by a defensive back.
As a senior in 2003, he was again named first-team All-ACC. He had 132 tackles that year. He studied management and information systems in college.
Professional Football Journey
Playing for the New England Patriots
The New England Patriots picked Dexter Reid in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL draft. He was the 113th player chosen overall.
In his first year, he played in 13 regular season games and started two. He made 23 tackles. He also played in three playoff games. He helped the Patriots win Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005. This was his first Super Bowl ring.
The Patriots released him in August 2005.
Joining the Indianapolis Colts
Just three days later, the Indianapolis Colts signed Dexter Reid.
In 2005, he played in all 16 games for the Colts. He recorded 10 tackles. In 2006, he played in 10 regular season games and started one. He finished with 11 tackles. He also played throughout the playoffs. He won his second Super Bowl ring when the Colts won Super Bowl XLI in 2007.

Dexter Reid's father, Dexter Reid Sr., was also an athlete. He played basketball at Virginia Tech and Granby High School.
