Dexter Devon Reid Jr. (born March 18, 1981) is a former American football player. He played as a safety. The New England Patriots chose him in the 2004 NFL draft. He played college football at the University of North Carolina. Dexter Reid is a two-time Super Bowl champion. He won Super Bowls with the Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts.

Early Life and High School Sports
Dexter Reid grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. He went to Granby High School. There, he was a top athlete in many sports.
In football, he was named Player of the Year for his district. He was also a first-team all-state player. As a senior, he made 62 tackles and 3 interceptions. He also blocked 5 field goals.
He played quarterback on offense too. He gained 1,400 total yards. During his high school career, he passed for 2,000 yards. He also scored 20 touchdowns. He rushed for 960 yards and 12 scores.
Dexter also competed in track and basketball. He won the state triple jump title as a senior. He was a two-time all-district player in basketball.
College Football Career
Dexter Reid started his college career in 1999. He played for the University of North Carolina.
Freshman and Sophomore Years
In 1999, he was redshirted. This means he practiced with the team but did not play in games. This allowed him to gain experience. In 2000, he was a backup safety. He mostly played on special teams. He finished fifth on the team with 69 tackles. He also had one interception.

Professional Football Career
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots picked Dexter Reid in the 2004 NFL draft. He was the 113th player chosen.
In his first year (2004), he played in 13 games. He started two of them. He made 23 tackles. He also forced one fumble. He played in three playoff games. He won his first Super Bowl ring with the Patriots. This was in Super Bowl XXXIX.
The Patriots released Dexter Reid on August 29, 2005.
Indianapolis Colts
Just three days later, the Indianapolis Colts signed him.
