Playing Soccer: Diaz Kambere's Journey
Early Life and Youth Soccer
Diaz Kambere was born in Uganda. When he was a child, his family moved to Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. He went to school in Coquitlam and Vancouver. As a young player, Diaz loved soccer. He played for youth teams like the Italian Canadian Sports Federation (ICSF). He was also part of the British Columbia provincial team. This means he was one of the best young players in his province.
Diaz also studied at Langara College and Trinity Western University. He learned about Human Kinetics, which is about how the body moves. He also studied Psychology, which is about how people think and feel.
Playing Professionally
In 2006, Diaz Kambere joined the Vancouver Whitecaps. This was a professional soccer team in the USL First Division, a top league at the time. He played in 28 games for them over two years.
In 2008, something interesting happened. Diaz signed a special "one-day contract" with Toronto FC. This was because Toronto FC had many players away playing for their national teams. So, Diaz helped them out for one game!
After leaving the Whitecaps, Diaz played for other teams. He joined the Abbotsford Mariners in 2009. This team was part of the USL Premier Development League, which is a league for young players who want to become professionals. He also played for Surrey United and the Victoria Highlanders.
Playing for Canada
Diaz Kambere also had the chance to play for his country. He represented Canada in the 2008 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament. This is a big competition where teams try to earn a spot in the Olympic Games.
Life Off the Field
Diaz Kambere's father, Amos Kambere, was involved in government in Uganda before they moved to Canada. Diaz also has brothers who love soccer. His older brother, Donald, even played on the same team as him at Abbotsford.
Coaching Soccer and Helping Youth
After his playing career, Diaz Kambere became a soccer coach. He has coached for many different teams and academies, including the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy. He even coached a men's team, CCB Men’s Premier Club, that won provincial and national championships in 2019!
Today, Diaz coaches soccer at Delview Secondary School. He also works there as a child and youth care worker. This means he helps students with their well-being and development, both on and off the soccer field.
