Dick Taylor was born in Dartford, England. He went to Dartford Grammar School. In July 1962, while he was studying at Sidcup Art College, a very famous band was formed. This band was the Rolling Stones. Dick Taylor, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards were part of a group called Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys. They joined up with Brian Jones and Ian Stewart's band, the Rollin' Stones.

At first, Dick Taylor played lead guitar in the Rolling Stones. But then he switched to playing bass guitar. He did this so Brian Jones could play guitar. In November of that year, Dick left the band. He wanted to go back to finish his studies at art college. Dick Taylor never recorded any songs with the Rolling Stones. Their first song came out in June 1963.

Forming The Pretty Things

In 1963, Dick Taylor started a new band called the Pretty Things. He formed it with a singer named Phil May. In this new band, Dick got to play his favorite instrument again: the guitar. He left the Pretty Things in 1969. This was after they released a special album called S.F. Sorrow.

The band made a few more albums without Dick. They broke up in 1976. But then, in 1979, they got back together with Dick Taylor. They released an album called Cross Talk. Dick stayed with the Pretty Things until they stopped playing music in 2018.

Other Music Projects

Besides his work with the Pretty Things, Dick Taylor also helped other bands. He was a producer for Hawkwind's first album. He also played guitar on that album. He helped produce the first albums for bands like Cochise and Skin Alley.

In the 1980s, Dick Taylor played guitar with an English band called the Mekons. He also recorded music with Andre Williams in Chicago. This music was for a record company called St. George Records.

As of 2024, Dick Taylor is still playing music. He is the lead guitarist for a band called the Hillmans. The singer of the Hillmans is Tony Minx. The band's name is a fun reference to an old car called the Hillman Minx.
