Dicrastylis soliparma is a special type of flowering plant. It belongs to a group of plants called Dicrastylis, which is part of the Lamiaceae family. This plant is only found in Western Australia, making it unique to that area.

About This Plant

Dicrastylis soliparma is a shrub that spreads out as it grows. It can reach a height of about 30 centimeters (about 1 foot) to 1.5 meters (about 5 feet). You can often find it growing in sandy soils, especially on wide, flat sandy areas called sandplains, and along the sides of roads.

What It Looks Like

The stems of this plant are mostly round. When they are young, they are covered in a thick layer of white or rusty-colored hairs. The leaves grow opposite each other on the stem. They are usually 7 to 25 millimeters long (less than an inch) and 3.5 to 7 millimeters wide. These leaves have special branched hairs and a bumpy, puckered surface.

Its Flowers

The flowers of Dicrastylis soliparma are white or cream-colored. They are about 3 to 6.2 millimeters long. You won't see any dots or stripes inside the flower's opening. Each flower has five stamens, which are the parts that produce pollen. You can usually see this plant flowering from October to December.

Where It Grows

This plant is found in two main areas of Western Australia: the Eremaean Province and the South-West Province.

Plant Classification

Understanding how plants are named and grouped is called taxonomy. Dicrastylis soliparma was first officially described and named in 1998. The scientists who did this were Barbara Rye and Malcolm Trudgen. This plant does not have any other scientific names, meaning it has no "synonyms."
