Diego Armando Maradona Jr. was born on September 20, 1986. He is an Argentine-Italian football coach and a former player. He also played professional beach soccer. Currently, he is the head coach for the Spanish club Ibarra. He is the son of Cristiana Sinagra and the famous Argentine footballer Diego Maradona.

Early Life and Family Connections

Diego Jr. was born in Naples, Italy. His mother was Cristiana Sinagra. He was raised by his mother. In 1993, a court in Naples officially recognized him as Diego Maradona's son. Because of this, he took his father's last name.

He first met his father in 2003 during a golf tournament. Later, in 2007, his father publicly said that Diego Jr. was his son. In 2016, his father again publicly recognized him in Argentina. He said, "I love him a lot and he’s very like me."

Diego Jr. loved football from a young age. He showed great skill, much like his father. When he was 11, he joined the youth team of Napoli. He also played for Italy's under-17 national team. In 2004, he played for the youth team of Genoa for one season.

On June 10, 2015, Diego Jr. married Nunzia Pennino in Naples.

Playing Career Highlights

Diego Jr. started playing senior football in 2005. He joined Cervia, an amateur team in Italy. This team was part of a national football reality TV show.

Playing in Italian Leagues

In January 2006, he moved to Internapoli. He played only two games there because of an injury. In 2007, he joined Quarto. His team won the Eccellenza playoffs that season and moved up to Serie D. He stayed with Quarto for the 2007–08 Serie D season. He later left Quarto and signed with Venafro, another Serie D team. In January 2008, he scored his first goal for Venafro from far away.

After leaving Venafro, he joined a beach soccer team called A.S.D. Mare di Roma. In December 2008, he signed with Boys Caivanese. In 2009, he briefly joined Juve Stabia and then played for Arzanesse.

Playing Beach Soccer for Italy

On April 29, 2008, Diego Jr. joined the Italy national beach soccer team. He played in the qualification matches for the 2008 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. He made his debut for the national team on May 12 against Greece. Italy finished fourth in the qualification, which meant they could play in the World Cup.

In June 2008, he started playing for A.S.D. Mare di Roma, a beach soccer team. He scored six goals in three matches for them. This helped him get chosen for Italy's squad for the 2008 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

Italy finished second in the World Cup, losing to Brazil in the final. Diego Jr. scored two goals for Italy in the tournament, including one in the final match. He scored many goals for his club team, Mare di Roma, helping them reach the final stages of the Italian championship.

In 2009, he joined Napoli Beach Soccer. He scored eight goals, helping his team win the Italian beach soccer championship for the first time.

Coaching Career

In July 2021, Diego Jr. started his first job as a head coach. He managed Napoli United, an amateur team he had played for before. He left this job in March 2023.

In June 2023, he became the new head coach for Pompei, another Eccellenza club. He was dismissed from this role in November 2023, even though Pompei was in second place in the league. In June 2024, he was hired by Montecalcio. On October 21, 2024, he left Montecalcio. The very next day, he signed with the Spanish club Ibarra, where he is currently the head coach.
