The Dighty Burn is a cool stream in Dundee, Scotland. It's also known as Dighty Water or Dichty Water. This stream is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) long. It flows through the northern and eastern parts of Dundee.

The Dighty Burn's Journey

The Dighty Burn starts as the Lundie Burn. It begins in the Sidlaw Hills, west of Dundee. From there, it flows north of Piperdam.

Then, the burn enters the northwest of Dundee. It passes through places like Bridgefoot, Trottick, and Claverhouse. It also goes through Mill o' Mains, Fintry, and Douglas.

Next, it reaches Claypotts. Finally, the Dighty Burn flows between Broughty Ferry and Monifeith. Here, it empties into the Firth of Tay.

A Look Back in Time

Long ago, the Dighty Burn was very important. Its water helped power factories. For example, the Claverhouse Bleachworks factory used the water. They used it to power water wheels.

People also used the burn's banks to bleach cloth. This means they made cloth whiter. Fish like trout and some salmon still live in the burn today.

Many years ago, ancient tools were found near the Dighty Water. These were Mesolithic tools made of flint. They were discovered where the burn goes under the A92 road.

In 2013, a group called Dighty Connect was formed. This group works to make the green spaces around the burn better. They do this by helping nature and organizing fun activities.

Amazing Wildlife

The Dighty Burn is home to lots of plants and animals. You might spot some interesting species here.

One plant often found is Giant hogweed. It's important not to touch this plant.

You can also see many birds like seagulls, swans, and swallows. If you visit the Trottick Ponds nature reserve, you might even see roe deer. The Dighty Burn flows right past this nature reserve.
