About Dimbulukeni Nauyoma
Dimbulukeni Nauyoma studied at the University of Namibia. He also earned an advanced diploma in Banking, Finance & Credit from the Namibian Institute of Bankers (IOB). While at IOB, he was the president of the Student Representative Council.
He was one of the leaders from the SWAPO Party Youth League who faced consequences for taking over a piece of land. This land was in a fancy area of Windhoek.
Student Leadership and Activism
Joining Student Groups
Dimbulukeni Nauyoma first joined the Namibia National Student's Organisation (NANSO) in 2008. This was when he was still in high school. Later, he became the chairperson for NANSO's Khomas Region branch.
In 2015, students elected him as the Secretary General at NANSO's conference.
Leading Student Protests
In 2016, Dimbulukeni led students at the University of Namibia. He also led students at the Namibia University of Science and Technology. They demanded lower school fees. This protest was similar to the FeesMustFall movement in South Africa. That movement was started by Mcebo Dlamini and Chumani Maxwele.
Later in 2016, he asked the NSFAF (a student financial aid fund) for help. He wanted them to make sure students from less fortunate backgrounds could go to college. He asked them to give registration guarantees. This was because both universities needed proof of support before letting new students join.
Affirmative Repositioning Movement
Demanding Land Access
In November 2014, Dimbulukeni Nauyoma and two other youth leaders, Job Amupanda and George Kambala, took action. They occupied a piece of land in a rich area called Klein Windhoek. They did this to demand land from the City of Windhoek. They named the plot Erf 2014. This name matched the year they took action.
Protesting New Parliament Plans
In 2016, the Namibian government planned to build a new Parliament building. The Affirmative Repositioning movement then started to gather young Namibians. They organized a protest for June 16. They argued that the money for the new parliament could be used for more important things. They felt the country had bigger problems to solve.
Political Involvement
Dimbulukeni Nauyoma has been a member of several political groups. He was part of Swapo, the AR (Affirmative Repositioning), and the Namibian Economic Freedom Fighters.
He led the campaign for Ally Angula, who was an independent candidate. Ally Angula was not able to register for the 2024 presidential election. In November 2024, Dimbulukeni rejoined SWAPO. This happened at a big rally in Windhoek, just before the 2024 Namibian election.
