Dina Averina (born on August 13, 1998) is a famous Russian rhythmic gymnast. She is known for her amazing skills and many wins. Dina won a silver medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. She is also the only gymnast to win the World All-around title four times in a row!

Dina has an identical twin sister, Arina Averina, who is also a very talented rhythmic gymnast.

About Dina Averina

Dina and her twin sister Arina were born on August 13, 1998. They started gymnastics when they were just four years old. Their first coach was Larisa Belova. Later, they trained at the Olympic Training Center in Moscow with coach Vera Shatalina.

Dina and Arina are identical twins. You can tell them apart by a small mole on their upper cheekbone. Dina's mole is a bit lower than Arina's. Arina also has a small scar above her right eye from a gymnastics accident. They have an older sister named Polina.

In 2020, Dina had a serious back injury. She decided not to have surgery so she could prepare for the postponed Olympic Games. This meant she had to limit some difficult moves. Dina officially stopped competing in February 2024. She had wrist surgery in April of that year.

As of 2025, Dina is dating Russian figure skater Dmitri Soloviev.

Dina's Gymnastics Journey

Starting as a Junior Gymnast

Dina and Arina began competing internationally in 2011. At the 2011 Russian-Chinese Youth Games, Dina won the gold medal. In 2012, she placed 4th at the Russian Junior Championships. She also won gold at the Venera Cup in Israel.

In 2013, Dina won a bronze medal at the Russian Junior Championships. She also helped her team win gold at the Happy Caravan Cup in Tashkent.

Senior Career Highlights

2014: First Senior Competitions

In 2014, Dina started competing as a senior gymnast. She won a bronze medal at the Lisboa World Cup. She also earned silver in clubs and bronze in ribbon at the same event. At the 2014 Russian Championships, she finished 6th in the all-around.

2015: Winning Gold Medals

Dina had a great 2015 season. She won a silver medal at the Corbeil-Essonnes tournament, right behind her sister Arina. She also won gold in ribbon there. Dina then won gold in the all-around at the MTK Budapest and Dundee International tournaments.

2016: More Medals and Growth

In 2016, Dina continued to improve. She won bronze in ball at the Espoo World Cup. At the Pesaro World Cup, she won silver in ball and ribbon, and bronze in hoop and clubs. Dina won the all-around gold medal at the Berlin World Cup. She also earned a silver medal at the Grand Prix Final in Eilat.

2017: First World Championship Title

The year 2017 was very special for Dina. She won the all-around gold at the Grand Prix Moscow. She also became the Russian National Champion. At the 2017 European Championships, Dina was part of the Russian team that won gold. She also won two gold medals in hoop and ribbon, and a silver in clubs.

At the 2017 World Games in Poland, Dina won gold in clubs and three silver medals. Then, at the 2017 World Championships in Italy, Dina became the All-around Champion! She also won gold in hoop and clubs, and silver in ball and ribbon.

2018: Second World All-Around Title

Dina continued her success in 2018. She won gold in the all-around at the Grand Prix Moscow and Thiais Grand Prix. At the Pesaro World Cup, she won all-around gold, plus gold in ball and clubs. She then won her second World All-Around title at the 2018 World Championships in Sofia, also taking gold in hoop, ball, and clubs.

2019: Third World All-Around Title

In 2019, Dina won team gold, hoop gold, and ribbon gold at the European Championships. She also shined at the European Games, winning gold in all-around, hoop, and ribbon. At the 2019 World Championships in Baku, she won her third straight All-Around gold medal. She also won gold in ball, clubs, and ribbon, and a bronze in hoop.

2021: Olympic Silver and Fourth World Title

Dina started 2021 strong, winning gold at the Moscow Grand Prix and World Cups in Tashkent and Pesaro. At the European Championships, she earned a bronze in the all-around and multiple gold medals in apparatus finals.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Dina was the top qualifier. In the final, she won a silver medal in the All-Around. This was a big moment as it was the first time since 1996 that Russia did not win gold in rhythmic gymnastics at the Olympics. The results caused some discussion, but the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) confirmed that the judging was fair.

After the Olympics, Dina competed at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Japan. She won gold in hoop, ball, and clubs, and silver in ribbon. Most importantly, she won her fourth consecutive All-Around gold medal, setting a new record!

Retirement from the Sport

On February 23, 2024, Dina Averina announced her retirement from competitive gymnastics.

Gymnastics Style

Dina is known for her fast and exciting routines. She handles the gymnastics equipment (like hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon) with incredible skill. She was one of the few gymnasts to score a perfect 10 in difficulty for her clubs routine, a rare achievement in rhythmic gymnastics.
