About Dina Shihabi
Dina Shihabi was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She grew up in different places like Saudi Arabia, Beirut, and Dubai. Her family has a mix of backgrounds. Dina has said, "I consider myself Arab European." Her father is half-Saudi and half-Norwegian. Her mother is half-Palestinian, half-German, and Haitian, but she grew up in France. Dina loved watching movies from a very young age.
Early Steps in Performing
When Dina was 11, she started taking dance lessons. Her teacher was Sharmila Kamte, a famous dance teacher in Dubai. Sharmila was known as the "dancing queen" of the United Arab Emirates. Dina joined her professional modern dance team.
Dina went to several schools in Dubai, including Al Mawakeb School and Dubai American Academy. She acted in many school plays. Her teacher, Nancy Mock, encouraged her to become an actress.
Moving to New York City
In 2007, when she was 18, Dina moved to New York City. She wanted to become an actress. By 2010, acting became her full-time job. She studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts for two years.
In 2011, Dina was accepted into two very famous acting schools: Juilliard and NYU Tisch School for the Arts. Even though she didn't have a four-year bachelor's degree, NYU allowed her to join. She earned her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in 2014. Dina was the first woman born in the Middle East to be accepted into both Juilliard and NYU's graduate acting programs. She was also the first Saudi Arabian woman to achieve this.
Acting Roles and Projects
Dina Shihabi has appeared in many exciting TV shows and movies. In February 2019, it was announced that she would have a main role in the second season of the Netflix science-fiction series, Altered Carbon. She played the character Dig 301.
In 2018, she had a main role as Hanin Suleiman in the first season of the series Jack Ryan. She also appeared in Daredevil as Neda Kazemi. More recently, in 2022, she played Melody Pendras in the main role of the series Archive 81. In 2023, she was in the miniseries Painkiller for six episodes.
Hobbies and Interests
Dina enjoys dancing in her free time. Her native language is a type of Arabic called Levantine Arabic.
