Her Early Life and Education

Dina Shihabi was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She grew up in different places like Saudi Arabia, Beirut, and Dubai. Her family has a mix of backgrounds, including Arab and European roots. She once said, "I consider myself Arab European." Her father is half-Saudi and half-Norwegian, and her mother is half-Palestinian, half-German, and Haitian. Dina loved watching movies from a young age. Her father was also a former banker.

When she was 11, Dina started taking dance lessons from a famous teacher named Sharmila Kamte in Dubai. She even joined a professional dance team! Dina also performed in many school plays. Her teacher, Nancy Mock, encouraged her to become an actress.

In 2007, at age 18, Dina moved to New York City to follow her dream of acting. By 2010, acting became her full-time job. She studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts for two years. In 2011, she was accepted into two very famous acting schools: Juilliard and NYU Tisch School for the Arts. Even though she didn't have a four-year bachelor's degree, NYU allowed her to join their graduate program. She earned her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in 2014. Dina is the first woman born in the Middle East to be accepted into both Juilliard and NYU's graduate acting programs. She is also the first Saudi Arabian woman to achieve this.

Her Acting Journey

Dina Shihabi has appeared in many exciting projects. In February 2019, it was announced that she would play a main character named Dig 301 in the second season of Netflix's science-fiction show, Altered Carbon. She has also been in other popular shows and films.

Outside of Acting

When she's not acting, Dina enjoys dancing as a hobby. Her native Arabic dialect is a type of Levantine Arabic.
