What is DinoPark Tycoon?
DinoPark Tycoon was created by Manley & Associates Inc. and published by MECC. They even made two versions of the game! One was for everyone to buy in stores. The other was a special school version. This school version was sent to elementary schools across the United States and Canada.
The school version came with extra information and activities for teachers. It wasn't a required subject, but it was a super fun way for students to learn about money and how to manage a business. It taught basic finance and management skills in an exciting way.
How to Play DinoPark Tycoon
The main goal in DinoPark Tycoon is to successfully run your dinosaur park. You start with some money, which is actually a loan. In the store version, you get $5,000, and in the school version, you get $20,000. This money is super important!
Building Your Park
You use your starting money to buy everything you need for your park:
- Land: You need space for your dinosaurs and attractions.
- Dinosaurs: The stars of your park! You'll buy different types.
- Fencing: Strong fences are a must to keep your dinosaurs safe inside their pens.
- Food: Dinosaurs get hungry! You need to buy the right food for carnivores (meat-eaters) and herbivores (plant-eaters).
- Employees: You'll need people to help run the park, like zookeepers and concession workers.
Managing Your Money
You have to pay back your loan on time. If you don't, your park could be taken away! Once you pay off the loan, you can start making a profit and expand your park even more. If you ever get stuck, a friendly animated dinosaur will pop up to guide you through the game.
Shopping for Supplies
To keep your park running, you'll visit different stores:
- Food Store: Here you buy meat for your carnivores, plants for your herbivores, and even seeds to grow more plants.
- General Store: This is where you get fences of different strengths and prices. You can also buy fun things for your visitors like bathrooms, gift shops, and parking lots. Don't forget advertising to attract more guests!
- Employment Office: This is where you hire all the people you need to work in your park.
- Dino City: This is the best place! It's where you buy new dinosaurs for your exhibits.
Facing Challenges
As time passes in the game, you'll face different challenges. Sometimes dinosaurs might escape their pens, or your employees might get sick. The number of visitors can also change with the seasons. Your job is to earn enough money to keep expanding your park. You'll want to add more cool attractions and bigger, better dinosaurs!
If you do a great job and your park is very successful, you can choose to sell it. If you've been a good park manager, you'll get an award and your name might even appear on the top scores list!
