Diplomystes is a special group of catfishes. These fish belong to a very old family called "velvet catfishes." They are found only in Chile, which means they are endemic to that country. A genus is a group of very similar living things, like a family name for different types of fish.
Types of Diplomystes Catfishes
Currently, scientists know about three different kinds, or species, in this group:
- Diplomystes camposensis Arratia, 1987
- Diplomystes chilensis (Molina, 1782) (Tollo)
- Diplomystes nahuelbutaensis Arratia, 1987
