Dirnaseer is a small place, or "locality," located in the northeastern part of the Riverina region in New South Wales, Australia. It's about 42 kilometres (26 miles) southeast of Temora and 50 kilometres (31 miles) west of Cootamundra. In 2006, about 170 people lived in Dirnaseer.

History of Dirnaseer

The area known as "Dirnaseer" was once a very large sheep farm. It was run by Henry Scott & Sons, and later by the Scott brothers, Murray and Percy. They owned this big farm from 1906 until November 1919.

Soldier Settlement

In 1919, the Scott brothers sold the farm to the government. The government then divided the land into smaller farms. These smaller farms were given to soldiers who had returned from World War I. This was part of a plan called "soldier settlement" to help them start new lives.

Community Hall

The "Dirnaseer" property was next to a farm called "Retreat," owned by George Main and his brother Hugh Main. George and Hugh were very supportive of the soldier-settlers. They helped a lot to get a community hall built for the new residents.

The Dirnaseer Hall officially opened on 15 October 1924. It had a large dance floor, which was about 40 feet (12 meters) by 30 feet (9 meters). It also included a kitchen and a changing room for ladies. This hall became an important place for the community to gather.

A Special Wedding

Years later, in 1940, George Main's daughter, Mary, got married at the Dirnaseer chapel. She married Clive Caldwell, who was a famous Australian air force pilot. Because they had so many friends, the wedding reception was held the day before at a hotel in Cootamundra. This was because the small country chapel couldn't hold everyone.
