Eduardo José Gomes Cameselle Mendez (born January 18, 1962 – died September 3, 2020), known to everyone as Dito, was a famous Portuguese football player. He was a strong central defender, which means he played in the defense to stop the other team from scoring. After he stopped playing, he also became a football manager.

Dito's Playing Career

Dito started his football journey at a young age. He played for several youth teams, including Alheira FC, Gil Vicente, and Braga. His professional career began with Braga in 1980. He played there for six years, showing his skills as a reliable defender.

Big Club Moves

In 1986, Dito moved to one of Portugal's biggest clubs, Benfica. During his first year with Benfica (the 1986–87 season), he played 27 league games. That year, Benfica won both the league title and the Portuguese Cup, which is called "the double". This was a big achievement in his career.

After Benfica, Dito played for another major club, Porto, for one season. He then continued his career with other teams like Vitória Setúbal, Espinho, Gil Vicente again, Torreense, and Ovarense. He played a total of 383 games in his professional career.

Playing for Portugal

Dito also represented his country, Portugal, on the international stage. He earned 17 caps (which means he played 17 times for the national team). His first game for Portugal was on October 28, 1981, when he was just 19 years old. He also played 11 games for the Portugal U21 team.
