Club History and Achievements
Moreirense Futebol Clube was founded in 1938. The team first made it to the second division in 1995. They stayed there for five seasons, learning and growing as a club.
After a short time in a lower league, a new manager named Manuel Machado helped the team. In just two years, he led them to two promotions. This meant Moreirense reached the top flight of Portuguese football for the very first time in the 2002–03 season.
Under Manuel Machado, Moreirense did well in the top league. They finished in the middle of the table for two seasons. In the 2003–04 season, they achieved a great ninth-place finish.
After Machado left, the team faced some tough times and was relegated twice. But they worked hard and returned to the second division in 2010. In 2012, they were promoted back to the top league.
Even after being relegated again, Moreirense quickly bounced back. In 2014, under manager Toni Conceição, they won the second division championship. This showed their determination to succeed.
Winning the League Cup
A very special moment for Moreirense happened on January 29, 2017. They won their first major national title, the Taça da Liga (League Cup). They achieved this by beating S.C. Braga in the final match. This was a huge victory for the club and its fans.
Recent Seasons
In the 2018–19 season, Moreirense had their best-ever finish in the top league. Manager Ivo Vieira led them to an impressive sixth place. They almost reached fifth place, missing it by only a small difference in goals.
In the 2021–22 season, the team was relegated back to the second division. However, they did not stay there for long. Under manager Paulo Alves, Moreirense immediately returned to the top flight. They won the 2022–23 Liga Portugal 2 championship. They earned 79 points, which was the highest number of points ever in an 18-team season of that league.
