Moreirense Futebol Clube is a professional football club from Moreira de Cónegos, Guimarães Municipality, Portugal. The club was started on November 1, 1938. They play their home games at Parque de Jogos Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas. This stadium can hold 6,150 fans.

Moreirense first played in Portugal's second football league in 1995. They reached the top league, the Primeira Liga, in 2002. The team won the Taça da Liga (League Cup) in 2017. They also won the second division championship in 2014 and again in 2023.

Club History: Moreirense's Journey

Moreirense Futebol Clube was founded in 1938. The team first made it to the second tier of Portuguese football in 1995. They stayed there for five seasons. After being moved down to a lower league, a new manager named Manuel Machado helped them.

Rising to the Top League

Under Manuel Machado, Moreirense earned two promotions in two years. This meant they reached the top league for the first time in 2002. Machado led the team for two more seasons. During this time, Moreirense finished in the middle of the league table. They even finished ninth in the 2003–04 season.

After Machado left, the club faced some tough times. They were moved down two leagues in a row. However, they returned to the second level in 2010 and then to the top league in 2012. After another quick move down, the team won the 2013–14 Segunda Liga under manager Toni Conceição.

Winning Their First Major Trophy

Moreirense achieved a huge milestone on January 29, 2017. They won their first major national title! They won the League Cup (Taça da Liga) by beating S.C. Braga in the final match. This was a very exciting moment for the club and its fans.

In the 2018–19 season, manager Ivo Vieira led Moreirense to their best-ever finish. They came in sixth place in the top league. They just missed out on fifth place because of goal difference. After two more seasons finishing 8th, the team was moved down again in 2021–22.

Returning to the Primeira Liga

In the 2022–23 season, under manager Paulo Alves, Moreirense quickly returned to the top league. They won the 2022–23 Liga Portugal 2 championship. The team earned 79 points out of a possible 102. This was the highest point total ever in an 18-team season of that league. Paulo Alves left the club after this successful season.
