The Djankun people have a rich history connected to their traditional lands. According to Norman Tindale, a well-known researcher of Aboriginal cultures, their homeland covered about 1,300 square miles (3,367 square kilometers). This area is now part of the state of Queensland.

Their traditional territory stretched across specific places:

  • To the north, their land reached areas like Mount Mulligan and Thornborough.
  • To the south, it extended towards Almaden.
  • The western boundary was near Mungana.
  • In the east, their land reached Dimbulah, close to where the Walsh River begins.
