Dockery Lake Recreation Area is a fun place to visit in northeast Georgia. It is located near the town of Dahlonega. This area is managed by the US Forest Service. It offers a campground and a day-use area next to a pretty lake.

The recreation area is part of the Brasstown Ranger District. This district is within the larger Chattahoochee National Forest. Dockery Lake is surrounded by the beautiful Cedar Ridge mountains. These mountains are part of the famous Blue Ridge Mountains.

Discover Dockery Lake

Dockery Lake is a small, man-made lake. It covers about 6 acres (2.4 hectares). The lake gets its water from a small stream that flows into Waters Creek. It is a popular spot for fishing. The lake is regularly stocked with trout, so you might catch some if you go fishing!

The lake is located at an elevation of about 2,400 feet (732 meters). This high elevation makes the area feel cool and refreshing. It is a great escape, especially during warmer months.

Explore the Dockery Lake Trail

On the north side of Dockery Lake, you will find the start of the Dockery Lake Trail. This trail is about 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) long. It's a great way to explore the forest around the lake.

The trail ends at a place called Miller Gap. Miller Gap is about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) east of Woody Gap. Woody Gap is a well-known spot on the famous Appalachian Trail. Hiking this trail lets you see lots of nature.

Camping at Dockery Lake

Dockery Lake Recreation Area has a nice campground for visitors. There are eleven campsites available. Five of these campsites are right next to the lake. This means you can wake up to beautiful lake views!

The other six campsites are located nearby. They are on higher ground, so they also offer great views of the lake. It's a perfect place to set up your tent and enjoy nature.

Campground Facilities

The campsites at Dockery Lake are simple and natural. They do not have electricity hookups. There are also no showers or water hookups for RVs. This makes it a great spot for a more traditional camping experience.

You should bring all the supplies you need for your stay. This includes water, food, and anything else for a comfortable trip. It's a wonderful place to disconnect and enjoy the outdoors.
