Dogana is a town and a civil parish in the small country of San Marino. Its name means 'Customs House'. You can find Dogana in the north-eastern part of San Marino. It is part of the Serravalle municipality, also called a 'castello'. Dogana is the most populated town in the entire country.
Where is Dogana?
This town is located at the very northern tip of San Marino. It is just after a place called Falciano. Dogana is very close to the border with Italy. It sits near the province of Rimini in Italy.
Dogana's Story
About 7,000 people live in Dogana. Because it is so big, the town asked to become its own 'castello' in 2006. This would mean it would split away from Serravalle. However, this idea was not approved in 2007.
Dogana does have some special independence. It has its own postal code, which is 47891. The rest of the Serravalle area uses a different postal code, 47899.
What Dogana Does
Dogana is the main way for people to enter San Marino from Italy. Many travelers arrive here by freeway no. 72 from Rimini. Even though 'Dogana' means 'customs house' in Italian, there are no border checks. You can cross freely between Italy and San Marino.
Sports in Dogana
The local football (soccer) team in Dogana is called Juvenes. They play in local leagues.
