Dolores Veintimilla de Galindo was an important Ecuadorian poet. She was born in Quito in 1829 and passed away in Cuenca on May 23, 1857. Her most famous poem is called "Quejas," which means "Complaints." Dolores didn't write many works during her lifetime, but her poems were collected and published after she died by Celiano Monge in Quito.

Life of Dolores Veintimilla
Dolores Veintimilla's parents were José Veintimilla and Jerónima Carrión y Antepara. They were from Loja, a city in Ecuador.
Marriage and Family Life
On February 16, 1847, when she was 18 years old, Dolores married Dr. Sixto Antonio Galindo y Oroña. He was from Colombia. They had a son named Santiago. Santiago's godmother was Rosa Ascázubi, who was the First Lady of Ecuador at the time. This means Rosa Ascázubi was married to the President, Gabriel García Moreno.
Dolores, her husband, and their son moved to Guayaquil. There, they were welcomed by the important people in society. After a few years, her husband left to continue his studies in Central America. This left Dolores alone. She spent her time reading and writing, and she connected with other writers in the area.
Speaking Out for Justice
Dolores Veintimilla was deeply affected when she saw a friend from the indigenous community being executed in Guayaquil. This event made her write a work called "Necrologia." In this writing, she spoke out against the death penalty. She also criticized how indigenous people were treated during that time. Her strong opinions were seen as controversial by some people in the literary world.
