Dominó is a popular chain of restaurants in Chile. It's known for serving Chilean-style fast food, especially their famous "completos." These are like hot dogs with many different toppings! Dominó also offers tasty Chilean sandwiches and salads. It started with just one small place in Santiago and now has over 30 locations all over Chile.
History of Dominó
The very first Dominó restaurant opened its doors in 1952. It was located on Agustinas street in Santiago, and guess what? That original spot is still open today! A person named Pedro Pubill started Dominó. He wanted to bring the fun style of American soda fountain restaurants, which were very popular back then, to Chile.
As Dominó became more popular, it became known for being creative with its menu. Many people think Dominó was the first to offer many different and unique completo combinations.
Dominó only had its original location for a long time. Then, in 1995, they opened their second restaurant, also in central Santiago. After that, they added one more place in 1999. The biggest growth happened in the 2000s, which brought their total number of restaurants to over 30!
What Dominó Serves
Dominó specializes in food you typically find at "fuente de sodas." These are traditional fast-food restaurants in Chile. They serve foods like churrascos (thin slices of beef), lomitos (braised pork), and completos.
While Dominó serves all these items, they are most famous for their completo. Right now, they offer sixteen different kinds of completos! These range from the classic completo italiano (which has tomato, avocado, and mayo) to the more unique turco (with egg and cheese).
Completos at Dominó
Dominó has more kinds of completos than most other fuente de sodas. Each of their completo variations has a special name, which is common in Chile. Besides the traditional ones, Dominó also has completos like the alemana (with tomato, sauerkraut, and mayo). There's also the rodeo (with cheese, barbecue sauce, and bacon) and the irlandesa (with lettuce, tomato, and mayo).
Sandwiches at Dominó
Dominó also offers the usual types of sandwiches found at fuente de sodas. These include churrascos (thin slices of beef), lomitos (braised pork), and mechadas (Chilean-style roast beef). Just like with the completos, you can choose many different toppings for these sandwiches.
