Dominik Livaković (born 9 January 1995) is a professional football player from Croatia. He plays as a goalkeeper for the club Fenerbahçe in Turkey and for the Croatian national team. He is known for his amazing saves and helping his teams win important matches.

Club Career

Playing for NK Zagreb

Dominik Livaković joined the main team of NK Zagreb in the 2012–13 season. At first, he was the second-choice goalkeeper. However, he quickly became the main goalkeeper. He played his first league game on 31 August 2012. Over four seasons, he played 104 league games for the club. This included 90 matches in the top Croatian league, Prva HNL.

Time at Dinamo Zagreb

On 30 August 2015, Livaković agreed to join Dinamo Zagreb. He started playing for them in the 2016–17 season. His first league game for Dinamo was on 2 October 2016. It was a 0–0 draw against Hajduk Split. On 18 October 2016, he played his first UEFA Champions League match. This was a 1–0 loss to Sevilla.

On 30 July 2019, Livaković set a new record for Dinamo Zagreb. He went 413 minutes without letting in a goal at the start of the season. This broke a record from 1995. He then extended this record to 535 minutes before conceding a goal.

In 2020, Livaković showed his skills in important matches. On 26 August, in a Champions League qualifier, he saved a penalty kick against CFR Cluj. The game went to a penalty shoot-out. Livaković saved another penalty, helping Dinamo win 6–5 and move forward. In the Europa League, he was praised for letting in only one goal in five group games. He also saved a penalty against Feyenoord. On 18 March 2021, in the Europa League Round of 16, he made a crucial save against Tottenham Hotspur. This helped Dinamo win 3–2 overall and reach the Europa League quarter-finals for the first time.

Moving to Fenerbahçe

On 25 August 2023, Livaković moved to Süper Lig club Fenerbahçe in Turkey. He signed a 5-year contract. On 6 September, he was nominated for the 2023 Yashin Trophy, an award for the best goalkeeper.

He made his Süper Lig debut on 17 September 2023. This was a 3–2 home win against Antalyaspor. On 21 September 2023, he played his first European game for Fenerbahçe. They won 3–1 against Nordsjaelland in the UEFA Conference League. On 26 September 2024, he saved a penalty in the last minutes of a UEFA Europa League match. This helped Fenerbahçe win 2–1 against Union Saint-Gilloise.

International Career

Dominik Livaković first joined the Croatia national football team in May 2016. His first game for Croatia was against Chile in 2017. Croatia lost that game on penalties.

In May 2018, Livaković was part of Croatia's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Croatia finished second in the tournament. He made his first competitive appearance for Croatia on 12 October 2018. This was a 0–0 draw against England in the Nations League.

At the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Livaković was a star. On 5 December 2022, in the Round of 16 match against Japan, he saved three penalties in the shoot-out. This helped Croatia win and move to the quarter-finals. In the quarter-finals against Brazil, he saved another penalty in the shoot-out. He also made eleven saves during the game. His amazing performance helped Croatia reach the semi-finals. He was named "Man of the Match" twice.

Personal Life

Dominik Livaković comes from a well-known family. His father, Zdravko Livaković, is a construction engineer. He used to be a State Secretary in the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure in Croatia. Dominik's grandparents were a radiologist and an English teacher.

In June 2022, Dominik Livaković married his long-time girlfriend, Helena Matić. Their wedding took place in the Zadar Cathedral. He has said that other famous goalkeepers like Danijel Subašić, David de Gea, and Iker Casillas are his football role models.
