Career
1997–1999: First Movies and Gaining Fame
In 1995, when she was 15, Swain was chosen out of 2,500 girls for the main role in the movie Lolita. The film, released in 1997, was based on a famous novel and received positive reviews from critics. Caryn James of The New York Times said Swain's performance was "extraordinary."

In 2006, she played a dancer in Totally Awesome, a movie that made fun of teen films from the 1980s. That same year, she had a supporting role in Alpha Dog. This crime drama was based on a true story.
