Donald Bruce Poile (born June 1, 1932 – died February 23, 2024) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played 67 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Detroit Red Wings between 1954 and 1958. Most of his career, from 1952 to 1962, was spent with the Edmonton Flyers in the Western Hockey League. Don was born in Fort William, Ontario, Canada. He was the brother of Hall of Famer Bud Poile, who was also a famous hockey player and manager. Don Poile passed away on February 23, 2024, at the age of 91.

Don Poile's Hockey Journey

Don Poile was a talented hockey player who played as a centre. He started his junior hockey career with the Fort William Hurricanes in his hometown. He played there for three seasons, showing off his scoring skills.

Playing in the Minor Leagues

After junior hockey, Don moved on to play for professional teams. He played for the Milwaukee Chiefs in the IHL. He then joined the Edmonton Flyers in the WHL, which was a major league at the time. He spent many seasons with the Flyers, becoming a key player for them.

Time in the NHL

Don Poile got the chance to play in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Detroit Red Wings. He played a few games with them in the 1954–55 season and then a full season in 1957–58. Even though his time in the NHL was short, it was a big achievement to play at the highest level of professional hockey.

Later Career

After his time with the Red Wings, Don returned to the Edmonton Flyers. He continued to play well and contribute to his team. He also had a brief period with the Hershey Bears in the AHL. Don Poile retired from professional hockey in 1962, after a decade-long career. He was known for his dedication and skill on the ice.
