Donat is a special natural mineral water that comes from springs in Rogaška Slatina, Slovenia. It has a lot of magnesium, which is a very important mineral for your body. People often drink Donat to help with tummy troubles like constipation, heartburn, or if they don't have enough magnesium.

A Look Back: Donat's History

Donat water was first sold to the public in 1908. But the story of the springs in Rogaška Slatina goes back much further! People like the Celts and Romans used these springs even in ancient times.

The first written records about the springs are from 1141. Back then, the water was even used as a landmark in property deals. Scientists first studied the water in 1572 to understand what was in it.

In the 1600s, doctors started to notice how helpful the water was. A famous doctor from Vienna, Paul de Sorbait, shared it with the royal court. Soon, many doctors were telling their patients to try it. The springs became very popular around 1665, thanks to Count Petar Zrinski, who told everyone about its healing powers. Hospitals even tested it as a medicine!

The first inn for visitors was built near the springs in 1676. Later, in 1685, a doctor named Johann Benedikt Gründel wrote the first scientific book about the Rogaška mineral water.

In the early 1700s, emperors like Leopold I and Charles VI gave special rights to sell the water. But then, for a while, the local owners took over, and things slowed down.

In the early 1800s, a governor named Count Ferdinand Attems worked hard to buy the land around the springs. He wanted to create a modern, safe spa for everyone. His plan worked! By 1869, Rogaška water was one of the top three best-selling waters in the world. Only French Vichy and German Selters sold more. You could buy it in many countries, even in Egypt! It even won an award at the World Exhibition in Chicago in 1893.

Because of this success, tourism grew a lot. Many hotels were built, and a new railway line made it easy for people to visit. Lots of important people came to Rogaška, including kings, queens, and famous artists like the composer Franz Liszt.

The special Donat spring we know today was found in 1908 by a team led by Dr. Joseph Knett. After World War II, new wells were found, which helped scientists learn more about underground water in Slovenia. This made sure there was always enough Donat water for the spa and bottling plant.

After Slovenia became independent, the resort faced some challenges. But now, it's thriving again, with beautiful old buildings and modern facilities.

How Donat is Produced

In 1934, a lot of Donat water was sent to other parts of Yugoslavia and abroad. About 2.5 million bottles were sold that year!

By 1974, Donat was sold as a special medicinal water. It was one of the top mineral waters sold in Yugoslavia and Europe. In 1975, scientists found a very important spot for pumping Donat Mg water.

In 1976, the water became known as Donat Mg. A year later, Donat Mg started selling more than other waters from the area. Sales and exports kept growing. In 1985, a new bottling line was opened, and a new distribution center was built in Belgrade in 1986.

How Donat Helps Your Body

Donat Mg is known for helping with a few common health issues:

Helping with Constipation

Donat Mg is a natural laxative, which means it helps you go to the bathroom more easily. It works because it has special salts called sulphates and a lot of magnesium. These ingredients pull water into your intestines, making your bowel movements softer and easier to pass. Magnesium also helps your intestines move things along.

Soothing Heartburn

Your stomach makes strong acids to digest food. Sometimes, you can have too much acid, which causes heartburn. Donat Mg has a lot of hydrogen carbonate, which is great at neutralizing stomach acid. It's like a natural antacid!

Boosting Magnesium Levels

Magnesium is a super important mineral for your body. It helps with energy, muscles, sleep, and even your mood. If you don't get enough magnesium, you might feel tired, have muscle cramps, or have trouble concentrating.

Experts say adults need about 375 mg of magnesium each day. Just 0.3 to 0.4 liters of Donat Mg can give you all the magnesium you need for the day!

Scientific Studies on Donat

A study done in Berlin, Germany, scientifically proved that Donat Mg really helps with digestion. The study followed people who had constipation. After six weeks, those who drank Donat Mg had bowel movements three times more often than those who didn't. Most people in the study, and the scientists, agreed that Donat Mg was effective and improved their quality of life.
