About Donna Biscoe
Her Early Life and Education
Donna Biscoe was born in Fort Benning, Georgia. Her mother, Mildred Skillern, was a retired English teacher. Donna went to Carver High School and then graduated from Kendrick High School in Columbus in 1973.
She later studied at Clark Atlanta University. There, she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education. After college, Donna also spent six months studying acting. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York.
In the 1980s, Donna worked as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. During this time, a casting agent noticed her talent. This discovery helped her start her acting career.
Her Acting Career
After her time as a flight attendant, Donna Biscoe returned to Atlanta. She began acting in plays. One of her early roles was playing the mother of Martin Luther King Jr. in a play called A Boy King. This play was performed at the Atlanta Children’s Theater.
In the late 1980s, Donna also started getting roles in movies and on television. She appeared in the TV series In the Heat of the Night four times. She was also in the CBS miniseries Mama Flora's Family in 1998. Her early film roles included Love Crimes (1992) and Blue Sky (1994).
Stage Performances
Donna Biscoe spent most of the 1980s and 1990s working in theater. She performed in many well-known plays. Some of her stage roles were in Doubt, To Kill A Mockingbird, and Fences. She also appeared in Waiting To Be Invited, Holiday Heart, Homebody Kabul, and Our Town.
Movie Roles
In the 2000s, Donna began appearing more often in films. She often played roles as mothers or grandmothers. Her movie credits include Motives 2 and Three Can Play That Game (2007). She also appeared in Mississippi Damned (2009) and The Sacrament (2013).
She had roles in big movies like The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014) and Girls Trip (2017). In 2016, she played the mother of Taraji P. Henson's character in the movie Hidden Figures. She also played Kevin Hart's mother in the 2018 comedy Night School.
Television Appearances
On television, Donna Biscoe has been a guest star in several popular shows. These include Drop Dead Diva, Nashville, and Being Mary Jane. She also had recurring roles in two shows on the Oprah Winfrey Network. She played Clara Jackson in the drama Greenleaf. She was also Irene Carlisle, the mother of Robin Givens' character, in the soap opera Ambitions.
From 2017 to 2022, Donna starred in the Bounce TV show Saints & Sinners. She played the character Lady Leona Byrd. The series ran for six seasons. More recently, she has had recurring roles in All the Queen's Men, All Rise, and Reasonable Doubt. In 2024, she appeared in the Lifetime TV movie Terry McMillan Presents: Tempted By Love. She also acted in the comedy-drama film The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat and the war drama film The Six Triple Eight.
Other Activities
In 2008, Donna Biscoe owned and operated a Pilates studio. It was located in downtown Atlanta.
