Dorlan Pabón's Football Journey
Starting Out at Envigado
Dorlan Pabón began his football career at Envigado. He quickly showed his talent. In 2008, he became one of the top goal scorers in the 2008 Copa Colombia tournament.
Shining at Atlético Nacional
In 2010, Pabón moved to another Colombian team, Atlético Nacional. He became famous for a fantastic goal he scored in 2012. It was a free-kick from 40 yards away against Peñarol in a 2012 Copa Libertadores game. Nacional won that game 4–0, and Pabón scored two of those goals!
He ended the Copa Libertadores tournament with 7 goals. He was even named player of the week once. With Nacional, Pabón also helped his team win the 2011 Liga Postobón Apertura title. He scored two important goals in the final game. He also scored his penalty kick in the shootout, helping Nacional win their 11th national title. Overall, he scored 50 goals in 71 games for Nacional.
Playing in Europe: Parma and Betis
Pabón's great performance caught the eye of many European clubs. In 2012, he joined Serie A club Parma F.C. in Italy. He signed a five-year contract. However, his time in Italy was short, and he scored only 1 goal in 11 games.
In early 2013, Pabón was loaned to Real Betis in Spain. He did much better there, scoring more goals per game than he did in Italy. He even scored a goal against famous club FC Barcelona in the very first minute of a game!
Moving to Valencia and São Paulo
On August 16, 2013, Pabón returned to Spain to play for Valencia CF. Valencia was impressed by his time at Betis and paid a good amount of money for him. He made his debut for Valencia in September 2013. His first goal for Valencia came on October 19, 2013.
In January 2014, Pabón went on loan to the Brazilian team São Paulo FC. Even though he was an expensive signing for Valencia, he didn't quite fit in. He scored his first goal for São Paulo from a penalty kick. He even asked the team's legendary goalkeeper, Rogério Ceni, if he could take the penalty, and Ceni agreed! Pabón left São Paulo in June 2014, thanking the club for his time there.
Returning to Monterrey
In June 2014, Pabón returned to C.F. Monterrey in Mexico. He had a very successful second spell with the club. He stayed there until July 2021, when he and Monterrey decided to part ways.
