Doru Shahabad is a historic town. It is located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, a union territory in India. This town is known for its rich history and culture.

Doru Shahabad has been home to many smart and talented people. Great scholars like Mahmud Gami, Rasul Mir Shahabadi, and Waris Hafiz Itoo were born here. They helped shape the literature and culture of Kashmir. Even today, the town continues to produce important leaders. These include former chief ministers like Syed Mir Qasim, as well as other politicians and agricultural scientists.

In 2011, a survey was done to count the people living in Doru. It showed that the town had a population of 19,429. About 53% of the people were male, and 47% were female.

Doru Shahabad also has a good education rate. About 70.61% of its people could read and write. This was higher than the average for all of India at that time. More men were literate (83.09%) than women (58.41%). Also, about 23% of the town's population was under six years old.

Doru Shahabad is famous for its many talented writers and poets. These creative people have added a lot to Kashmiri literature.

Today, Doru Shahabad is still home to many poets. Some of them are S.M. Maqbool Fayiz, Peer Ghulam Mohammad Astana Shahid, and Yasir Kashmiri. Others include A.G. Nisar Shahbadi, Waahid Kashmiri, Sher Ali Bodha, Figaar Kashmiri, and Armaan Shahabadi.

A historian named Mullah Mohammad was from Doru Shahabad. He worked in the court of Zain-ul-Aabideen, a great ruler. Mullah Mohammad translated an important book called Rajatarangini from Sanskrit into Persian. Mir Saidullah, who wrote the book Bagh-i-Sulaiman, was also from this town.

Important Religious Places

Doru Shahabad has several important religious sites. The Khankah Faiz Panah shrine was built by Mir Mohammad Hamadani. He was the son of Ameer-i-Kabeer Mir Syed Ali Hamadani.

Just 4 kilometers from Doru Shahabad is the famous Verinag spring and Mughal garden. This beautiful spot is well-known for its clear water. Two other springs nearby, Shehilnag and Sumnag, are often called the "siblings" of Verinag.
