About Dotan
Early Life
Dotan was born in Jerusalem, Israel. When he was just one year old, his family moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands. This is where he grew up and started his journey in music.
The 7 Layers Album (2014-2015)
On January 31, 2014, Dotan released his album called 7 Layers. He produced this album himself. It quickly became very popular in the Netherlands, reaching number 2 on the Dutch Top 100 Charts.
The first song from the album was "Fall," released in January 2014. Then came "Home," which became a huge hit. It was played a lot on Dutch radio stations and quickly reached number 1 on the Dutch MegaTop50 chart, staying there for four weeks. "Home" also became number 1 in Belgium.
The 7 Layers album sold so well that it earned "Gold" status in August 2014. This means it sold many copies! The song "Home" became even more successful, reaching "Double Platinum" status. Later, the album reached "Double Platinum" and "Home" reached "Triple Platinum" in the Netherlands. The song "Home" even got attention in the United States, reaching number 2 on a Billboard chart.
7 Layers is one of the most streamed albums in the Netherlands on Spotify. Another song from the album, "Hungry," was also very popular in Belgium. In 2015 and 2016, Dotan toured across the United States with musician Ben Folds.
New Music and Concerts (2016-Present)
In January 2016, Dotan started his own concert series called "7 Layers Sessions" in Amsterdam. He created this to help new and talented musicians from around the world share their music. These sessions were very popular and even became a festival in 2016.
Dotan released a new song called "Shadow Wind" on August 4, 2016. This song was chosen as the anthem for the 2016 Olympic Games. It was also a big hit on Dutch radio, reaching number one on the airplay chart. After touring Europe, Dotan performed a sold-out show at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam in 2018, which is a very large music arena.
On May 22, 2020, Dotan released an EP (which is like a mini-album) called Numb. He continues to release new music, including the album Satellites in 2021 and A Little Light in the Dark in 2024.
