Lieutenant general Douangchay Phichit (Lao: ດວງໃຈ ພິຈິດ; born April 5, 1944 – died May 17, 2014) was an important politician and military leader from Laos. He held very high positions in the government. These included being a Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of National Defense. He was also a key member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, which is the main political party in Laos.

Who Was Douangchay Phichit?
Douangchay Phichit was born in Attapeu, a province in Laos. He grew up to become a Lieutenant general, which is a very high rank in the military. This shows he was a respected leader in the armed forces of Laos.

Douangchay Phichit had two very important jobs in the government of Laos.
Deputy Prime Minister
From July 8, 2006, until his death in 2014, he served as the Deputy Prime Minister. This role is like being a top assistant to the Prime Minister. It involves helping to lead the country and make big decisions.
Minister of National Defense
He was also the Minister of National Defense for a long time. He started this job on March 27, 2001, and held it until he passed away. As Minister of Defense, he was in charge of the country's military and its safety. He made sure Laos was protected.
A Sad Day
On May 17, 2014, Douangchay Phichit and his wife, Lieutenant Colonel Mrs Thanda Phichit, died in a plane crash. The accident happened in northern Laos. They were traveling on a plane that belonged to the Lao People's Liberation Army Air Force.
