The Creek's Journey
Double Creek begins its journey in a pond. This pond is located about 1 mile northeast of a place called Bushy Fork, North Carolina. From there, the creek flows mostly towards the north. It travels for a few miles. Finally, Double Creek joins up with South Hyco Creek. This meeting point is about 3 miles southeast of a town called Leasburg.
The Area Double Creek Drains
Every creek and river has a "watershed." Think of a watershed as all the land where rain or snow falls and eventually drains into that specific creek. Double Creek's watershed covers an area of 18.10 square miles (46.9 km2). This means all the water that falls on this land will eventually flow into Double Creek.
This area gets a good amount of rain, about 46.6 inches every year. A big part of the watershed, about 52%, is covered in forests. These forests are important because they help keep the water clean. They also provide homes for many animals.
