The Doucet River is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the southern part of Lac au Lard. This lake is part of the larger Jeannotte River system. The Doucet River is located in the town of La Tuque, within the Mauricie region. It also flows through the zec de la Bessonne, which is a controlled harvesting zone.
The Doucet River is found between two larger rivers: the Batiscan River to its east and the Saint-Maurice River to its west. It is part of the Batiscan River's water system, which eventually flows into the St. Lawrence River. A main road, the Lac au Lard path, runs along the east side of the river valley.
For many years, the main activity around the Doucet River has been forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. After forestry, outdoor fun like fishing or hiking is the next most popular activity.
The river's surface usually freezes over from early December until late March. However, it's safest to walk or play on the ice from late December to early March. The amount of water in the river changes throughout the year, depending on the seasons and how much rain or snow falls.
Where Does the Doucet River Start and End?
The Doucet River begins at a place called Lake Perdrix. This lake is about 2.2 kilometres (1.4 mi) long and sits at an altitude of 365 metres (1,198 ft). Lake Perdrix is located in La Tuque.
The source of the river is:
- About 27.2 kilometres (16.9 mi) south of the village of Lac-Édouard.
- About 24.0 kilometres (14.9 mi) northeast of downtown La Tuque.
- About 10.8 kilometres (6.7 mi) northeast of lake Wayagamac.
The Doucet River flows into a bay on the south shore of Lac au Lard. This is where the river ends its journey.
The river's mouth is located:
- About 11.5 kilometres (7.1 mi) west of where the Jeannotte River meets the Batiscan River.
- About 7.1 kilometres (4.4 mi) south of where the ruisseau du Lac au Lard meets the Jeannotte River.
- About 11.2 kilometres (7.0 mi) southeast of Petit lac Wayagamac.
- About 42.2 kilometres (26.2 mi) south of the village of Lac-Édouard.
- About 33.8 kilometres (21.0 mi) southeast of downtown La Tuque.
After the Doucet River flows into Lac au Lard, the water continues its journey. It travels north across Lac au Lard for about 3.4 kilometres (2.1 mi). Then, it flows into the Lac au Lard stream for about 1.9 kilometres (1.2 mi). From there, the water joins the Jeannotte River and flows for about 20.8 kilometres (12.9 mi). Finally, it reaches the Batiscan River, which eventually empties into the St. Lawrence River.

The name "Doucet" is a family name that comes from France. The official name "Rivière Doucet" was made official on April 3, 1986. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is like a special group that names places in Quebec.
