The Ruisseau du Lac au Lard stream is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Jeannotte River, which then joins the Batiscan River. This stream is located near the city of La Tuque in the Mauricie region. It also flows through a protected area called the zec de la Bessonne.
A forest road, R040, crosses the stream near where it meets the Jeannotte River. For a long time, the main activity around the stream has been forestry, which means cutting down trees. Recently, outdoor fun like hiking and fishing has also become popular.
During winter, the stream usually freezes over. This happens from early December until late March. It's safest to walk on the ice from late December to early March. The amount of water in the stream changes throughout the year, depending on the season and how much rain or snow falls.
Where the Stream Starts and Flows
The Ruisseau du Lac au Lard stream begins at a lake called Lac au Lard. This lake is about 6.9 kilometers (4.3 miles) long and sits at an altitude of 321 meters (1,053 feet). The lake gets most of its water from other lakes, like Lac de la Grosse Roche, and from the Doucet River.
The stream flows for about 1.9 kilometers (1.2 miles) to the northeast. It doesn't have any smaller streams flowing into it along its path.
Meeting the Jeannotte River
The Ruisseau du Lac au Lard stream flows into the Jeannotte River from its west side. This meeting point is located:
- About 10.8 kilometers (6.7 miles) northwest of where the Jeannotte River meets the Batiscan River.
- About 10.8 kilometers (6.7 miles) southeast of Petit lac Wayagamac.
- About 37.6 kilometers (23.4 miles) south of the village of Lac-Édouard.
- About 34.7 kilometers (21.6 miles) east of downtown La Tuque.
After joining the Jeannotte River, the water travels about 20.8 kilometers (12.9 miles) south and then east. Finally, it flows into the Batiscan River, which eventually empties into the Saint Lawrence River.
