Douglas M. Overton (born August 3, 1969) is an American who used to play professional basketball and is now a coach. He played as a point guard, which is a player who leads the team's offense.

Playing Basketball

Doug Overton started his basketball journey before joining the NBA. He played for the Illawarra Hawks in Australia's NBL. He has said that playing in Australia helped him get into the NBA.

Joining the NBA

In 1991, Doug was chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the NBA draft. This is when teams pick new players. He was the 40th player picked overall in the second round. Doug is 6 feet 3 inches tall.

He played for 11 seasons in the NBA. During that time, he played for 8 different teams. These teams included the Washington Bullets, Denver Nuggets, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, New Jersey Nets, Boston Celtics, Charlotte Hornets, and Los Angeles Clippers.

Head Coach Position

In August 2013, Doug Overton became the head coach for the Springfield Armor. This team was part of the D-League, which is now called the NBA G League. Currently, he coaches the men's basketball team at Lincoln University in Oxford, Pennsylvania.
