Douglas M. Overton, born on August 3, 1969, is a former American professional basketball player and coach. He played as a point guard for many teams in the NBA.

Doug Overton's Playing Career

Before joining the NBA, Doug played basketball in Australia for a team called the Illawarra Hawks. He was chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the 1991 NBA draft. He was the 40th player picked overall.

Standing 6 feet 3 inches tall, Doug played as a point guard. He played for 11 seasons in the NBA with 8 different teams. These teams included the Washington Bullets, Denver Nuggets, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, New Jersey Nets, Boston Celtics, Charlotte Hornets, and Los Angeles Clippers.

During his NBA career, Doug played in 499 games. He scored a total of 2,253 points.

Doug Overton's Coaching Career

After his playing career, Doug Overton became a basketball coach. In May 2006, he started as an assistant men's basketball coach at Saint Joseph's University.

Later, in 2008, he became an assistant coach for the NBA's New Jersey Nets. This team is now known as the Brooklyn Nets. He also worked as the Nets' Player Development Coach starting in the 2010–11 season.

In August 2013, Doug was named the head coach of the Springfield Armor, a team in the D-League (now called the NBA G League). Currently, he coaches the men's basketball team at Lincoln University in Oxford, Pennsylvania.
