Dov Ben-Meir (Hebrew: דב בן-מאיר) was an Israeli politician. He was born on August 11, 1927, and passed away on March 21, 2020. Ben-Meir served as a member of the Knesset for the Alignment political group. The Knesset is like Israel's parliament, where laws are made. He was a member from 1981 to 1988.

About Dov Ben-Meir
Dov Ben-Meir was born as Dov Zucker in Ciechocinek, a town in Poland, in 1927. When he was eight years old, in 1935, he moved to Mandatory Palestine. This area later became the country of Israel.
His Education and Early Work
Ben-Meir went to the Pardes Hanna Agricultural High School. After that, he studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He earned a degree in economics and political science.
In 1947, he helped start a kibbutz called Ma'ayan Barukh. A kibbutz is a special community in Israel where people live and work together. He lived there until 1953. He was also a leader in the Meuhedet movement until 1954.
From 1954 to 1962, Ben-Meir worked for the Prime Minister's Office. He was in charge of the Publications Service. In 1962, he started the Israeli Cancer Association. He was its director general until 1967.
His Political Career
Dov Ben-Meir was a member of the Labor Party. This is one of the main political parties in Israel. He led the Labor Party's branch in Tel Aviv from 1970 to 1976.
He also chaired the Tel Aviv branch of the Histadrut. The Histadrut is a large organization that represents workers in Israel. From 1976 to 1983, he was part of its national leadership.
In 1981, he was elected to the Knesset. He was part of the Alignment list. This was a group of political parties, including the Labor Party. In 1983, he became the first deputy mayor of Tel Aviv. He was re-elected to the Knesset in 1984. However, he lost his seat in the 1988 elections.
Later Work and Contributions
After leaving the Knesset, Ben-Meir continued to be active. From 1989 to 1990, he advised Minister of Finance Shimon Peres. He helped improve ties with German-speaking countries.
Later, he worked as an economic advisor. He helped German companies do business in Israel. He also advised the Palestinian National Authority and Jordan. Ben-Meir was also a senior lecturer. He taught at the Beit Berl college, the Labor Productivity Institute, and the R&D institute at the Technion.
